Enjoy a rare experience of the Colosseum, visiting at night, to explore special access areas after the crowds have left.
5 million people visit the Colosseum every year but you’ll see it like no one else. Enjoy that exclusivity as your guide will tell you hair-raising tales of the Colosseum’s bloody past.
In the darkness of night, those stories will feel even more spine-tingling than usual, and with the amphitheater almost empty, you’ll find it easier to hear and interact with your guide. As well as being especially evocative, the Colosseum at night is cooler and much more comfortable.
Valeria Messalina was the daughter of Marco Valerio Vessalla Barbato, Duke of Rome. At just twelve years she was one of the most desirable women. By the emperor Caligola’s whim, at the age of fourteen, she was forced to marry Claudio, who was in office since 41 AD. to 54 d.C. In spite of this, her restless soul was always looking for new adventures for Rome and she thought she was not a faithful wife. But history also tells us that Claudio was by no means a handsome man: lame, stubborn and bitchy (you have read well, it is said to spark not a little). So we certainly can not fault Messalina.
However, this lifestyle led her to death at the hands of her husband, who said these words: “If your death will be planted by all your lovers, half of Rome will weep.” However, the end of the beat of her heart did not stop her at all and it is said that at the fall of the night her ghost will move between The Colosseum and the Roman Forums always seeking a new adventure.
So men are careful not to be dazzled!
