The sublime love, which displays itself in the final moment of pain and it is right in this moment that it reaches its highest point. A soft and discreet idea, but edifying and profound of everlasting love, capable of overcoming the limitations of the time, fashions, prejudices and clichés with the power of his spiritual charge.
The Sublime Love legend
This legend tells of a young Roman centurion named Sabino who, strolling through a square in Terni, he saw a beautiful girl named Serapio and fell in love madly.
Sabino asked the parents of Serapio to marry her but received a determined refusal: Sabino was pagan while the Serapio’s family was Christian. To overcome this obstacle, the beautiful Serapio suggested to his beloved to go to their Bishop Valentine to approach the religion of his family and receive baptism, and did that in the name of his powerful love.
Unfortunately, just as they were preparing the celebrations for the baptism of Sabino (and for the next wedding), Serapio became ill with tuberculosis. Valentine was called immediately to the bedside of the dying girl. Sabino begged Valentine not to be separated from her beloved: the life without her would only be a long-suffering. Valentine baptized the young, and joined the two in marriage and as he raised his hands up for the blessing, a blissful sleep wrapped those two hearts for eternity.
