The prestigious Infiorata del Corpus Domini of Gallicano nel Lazio returns, transforming a historic Roman borgo into a breathtaking open-air showcase of sustainable high-art and deep spirituality. This year, the monumental visual masterpiece is inspired by a profound theme chosen by the local Pastor, Don Luigi, reflecting Saint Augustine’s timeless maxim: “Love, and do what you will”—a powerful invitation to embrace love as the ultimate guide for beauty, faith, and community.
Rooted in the magnificent 17th-century Roman traditions that originated during the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, the art of creating intricate tapestries from natural and repurposed elements has evolved into a sublime expression of Italian heritage. Gallicano nel Lazio stands at the very heart of this plurisecular tradition, uniting past, present, and future generations in a monumental collective artwork. Recognizing its immense ethical, cultural, and artistic value, a formal procedure was launched to candidate this extraordinary event, alongside the National Infiorate Network, for the prestigious UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage recognition.
Unlike traditional floral displays, Gallicano’s Infiorata is globally renowned for its pioneering eco-luxury philosophy. The entire installation is crafted exclusively from recycled and sustainable materials, including marble dust, wood derivatives, and coffee grounds. Over 500 passionate volunteers, alongside contemporary artists, esteemed fine art academies, and local catechists, dedicate themselves to this grand project. Together, they orchestrate a magnificent 280-meter-long continuous carpet displaying more than 40 distinct color gradients, proving that absolute sustainability can achieve the highest standards of luxurious aesthetic design.
This edition of the Infiorata beautifully merges high-level professional artistry with community legacy. The grand design features creative drawings developed by the young students of the Istituto Comprensivo di Gallicano nel Lazio (second-grade middle school), who participated in a dedicated cultural project. Furthermore, the event continues its prestigious tradition of hosting international artists of diverse backgrounds and faiths, turning the historic streets into a universal gallery of spiritual interpretation. The grand creation culminates in a mesmerizing overnight ritual, a long vigil of dedication that concludes at dawn, when the morning light beautifully exalts every artistic detail.
While the unique artistic creation and the solemn religious atmosphere are fully confirmed, the official hourly program and specific itinerary for this year’s celebrations will be communicated by the local institutions in the coming days. Exclusive visitors and cultural patrons are invited to check back soon to discover the finalized schedule for guided viewings, private tours, and community events.
Unlike standard flower festivals, Gallicano’s Infiorata is entirely crafted using eco-friendly and recycled materials like marble dust and coffee grounds, creating a sustainable 280-meter high-art carpet that is currently running for UNESCO World Heritage status.
The masterpiece is a collaborative effort bringing together international artists, renowned fine art academies, local volunteer associations, and young students from the Gallicano nel Lazio Institute who designed parts of the project.
